I started dancing Salsa in 2004 as a beginner in Bill’s class. Over the years I have studied salsa and other forms of partner dance, including Tango, Bachata and Cha Cha, among others, with a number of different teachers all over the world. I have been assisting Bill on the teaching team since 2006 and love being part of the Steel City Salsa family.
I naturally want to help people and have a friendly approach to teaching, although I drive for good technique in my students. A large part of the fun of this type of dance is sharing it, and so I work hard to communicate the importance of the lead and follow partnership. It is a pleasure watching the technique and confidence of all our dancers improve, and I particularly enjoy helping to add flare and style to people’s dance.
For me, dancing is about freedom, expression and enjoyment – absolutely anybody can do it and it gives so much back too.
Outside dance, I currently work in the Medical Device industry as a Quality Manager. I have a PhD in Particle Astrophysics, can converse in British Sign Language and can sometimes be found crewing at sea as a volunteer for the Tall Ships Youth Trust.
